about

Things of the Heart is Gestures’ debut release and features three songs that were recorded in a basement in Delta, British Columbia within the span of four days. While recorded in one location, the underlying spirit and inspiration of the EP is sprawled all over geographically--a friend’s story of life in L.A. told in Seattle; a thin collection of Wilfred Owen poems lying conspicuously amidst a congested bookshop in Hong Kong; the gentle breathing of a girl whose figure is patterned by the morning light in a cold, lifeless dorm room in upstate New York. Collaged together as an EP, these songs are unrooted in place, but anchored in things of the heart--love, longing, and loss.

Track Name: Don't Go Gentle
You were a young learning kid
Hazy bars, rambling through the streets
Dreamed all day, lived all night
Poured yourself out like California wine

Oh, your smile will dull
and your heart will slow
Oh, your road will unfold
Into the unknown
But keep your head in the fight
And don’t go gentle into the night

In the morning light
Washed by a sense of clarity
Anchored in your history
And the future is in your mind

Oh, your smile will dull
and your heart will slow
Oh, your road will unfold
Into the unknown
But keep your head in the fight
And don’t go gentle into the night
